Today has been a pretty good day. I took Trevor to his graduation practice. While he was practicing with his friends I hit up the golden arches for some breakfast burritos. It is hard to not get the standard two steak and cheese biscuits. I am doing well with it for the most part.

I have been snacking and eating later in the evening than I have been in the most recent months of my journey. I really think I am eating later in the evening because I am sleeping in and skipping breakfast. By the time the evening rolls around I am hungry and end up eating more than I intended to.

I met with the dietitian today. He was concerned that my uric acid count was high from the last time I had my blood work done. He told me I needed to be drinking more milk. Seriously? Dude, do you not know milk is gross unless it consists of ice cream or cheese. He also suggested that I switch to a LOW CARB diet. The carb heavy foods turn into insulin and cause you to be hungry again quicker than if you had protein and veggies. I am going to do my best to limit the amount of carbs and sugars I consume, especially after lunch.

I went to play basketball tonight. I had a great time. Not only did I get to hang out with some great people but I got to work out. Awesome cardio night tonight. I am getting better each week. I am looking forward to our season this winter. I am in the process of tracking down a gym that we can use to start a summer league. I am hoping to get this league rolling soon.

I am looking forward to the 5K on Saturday. I am going to try and push myself to see if I cannot break the 30 minute mark this time. Hope to see you there.

Glad I got some exercise in today.

4-26-2010

My first day off from school. WOW. I had to take a package and ship it Fed Ex.  I was at the wrong place and on top of that I had a flat tire. I was about 1/4 of a mile from the tire shop. I was going to try and just limp on over. Nope. It was way too flat to make it out of the parking lot. I pulled off to the side in front of Dollar General. I was blocking 2 or 3 spaces so I could be towed out if needed. I was getting some very nasty looks from some blue haired granny's throwing me some nasty looks. I called road side service since I am paying for it. They were an hour away. No way was I going to sit there for an hour waiting. I put my big boy pants on and changed my tire myself.

After we finally got the tire squared away we headed over to the track at Clemson. Trevor and I tried to run some laps. I ran about 3 good laps before I got sick of running into the 100 mile an hour winds. OK maybe 100 miles an hour is a little over statement. I would get close to Trevor and he would sprint away so I would not pass him. He would walk a little bit and then roll around in the grass. He was so funny.

I cooked dinner tonight. Ground turkey instead of ground beef. I could not tell a difference. It was a great meal and probably a much more healthy alternative.

I went and played basketball tonight. I took Trevor with me. He was so funny running around messing with people. I played about 6 or 7 games. It was a very good night. I bought new basketball shoes. Very nice. I was drenched as usual when I left the gym. Looking forward to the next basketball night.

I go visit my Dr. tomorrow. I hope she has her calendar cleared. I am going to bombard her with all kinds of questions. I also find out about my blood work from like a month ago. I hope I can get an appointment with the nutritionist soon as well.

Enjoying the new me.

March Madness Hangover Cure

Went to the gym to play some basketball tonight. I was very disappointed to see there were only 4 of us playing tonight. At first I was wondering how much fun it was going to be playing 2 on 2. Not only was it fun, but it was a much more intense workout that playing 5 on 5. I would much much rather play 5 on 5, but I will play basketball at any time, even with 9 year olds.

I broke down and played ball tonight in my running shoes. WHY in the world did I wait this long to switch shoes??????? Actually, the reason I have played in my basketball shoes despite the pain stems back to Iraq. When I was in Iraq I played basketball ALL the time. The only times I ever got hurt in Iraq was playing basketball in my low top running shoes. I twisted an ankle at least 5 times and skinned every elbow and knee I owned. If I would have had 10 more of each I am sure I would have skinned those as well. This was back when I was around 205 lbs and could play basketball with the best of them.

I have 18 school days left until my Undergrad Academic Career is over. I can see a lot of  physical exercise in my future.

I am so ready to get fit. It has been a long journey so far and an even longer journey ahead of me. Despite the pain I will be having in my legs on Saturday I am looking forward to the 5K.

In other news, some of the guys I play basketball with during the league want to get a league going, if you are interested let me know.

Spring Break is 8 school days away. I am looking forward to getting out of town. We have talked about going camping in Charleston, SC. We are going to have to get the camper opened up sometime this week and check things out and get ready to hit the "open road."

We are slowly becoming some semi-serious campers. We bought the camper last year in June, we went camping a lot last year. I hope to be able to go even more this summer. Running and biking around a campground would be great exercise. Swimming opportunities will be a plenty as well.

Looking forward to continuing my journey.

Still not sure why my spell check button is missing. I am not great at revising my writing. I promise I will try to get better at this for your sake.
